Abstract:
In this talk, we will discuss how Amazon monitors its planet-scale wide area network. We will dive into how AWS monitors the connectivity experience of internet end-users connecting to AWS-hosted services, and how Software Defined Networking is used to optimize this experience.
Biography
Syed Ali Khayam is the General Manager of Internet Monitoring and Software Defined Networking at Amazon Web Services (AWS). Prior to AWS, he was the Director of Engineering at VMware and the Senior Director of Engineering at PLUMgrid. He has co-founded three startups in Pakistan, employing 1000s of Pakistani engineers through these startups. He did his PhD in EE from Michigan State University and also served as a faculty member at NUST School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science.
Syed Ali Khayam has published more than 90+ peer-reviewed articles in top-tier conferences and journals. He also serves on the technical program committees of the world’s best conferences, including ACM Sigcomm. He has 10+ patents based on the technologies that he has built in his career.
