Abstract:

Pakistan’s rapid urbanization has most often lacked proper planning, thus leading to an every-increasing strain on our cities’ infrastructure, environment and public services. The Center of Urban Informatics, Technology, and Policy (CITY) at LUMS is committed to developing and promoting the use of modern-day technology, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision-making as enablers for solving the complex challenges facing our cities.

This talk will present an overview of some real-world use-cases illustrating the use of technology in solving urban issues. These case-studies stem from CITY’s ongoing projects most of which are being carried out in partnership with public-sector stakeholders such as Punjab Emergency Services Department (1122), Punjab Safe Cities Authority, Walled City Authority Lahore, and Lahore Waste Management Company. At the heart of these technology-driven solutions lie remote sensing, artificial intelligence, spatial data-science, computer vision, and resource optimization.
